The rights of a worker — and the hadith that is not from Bukhari
Source: Quran 28:26-27, 65:6, 4:29, 83:1-3, 2:188; Sahih al-Bukhari 30, 2114, 2227, 2270; Sahih Muslim 1661; Sunan Ibn Majah 2443 (graded sound); Sunan Abi Dawud 3628 (graded sound)
The most famous hadith on this subject is:
Give the worker his wage before his sweat dries.
Sunan Ibn Majah 2443. Graded sound by the scholars.
And here, in this same place, it should also be written: it is not in Sahih al-Bukhari. It is very often quoted as being from Bukhari, and that is wrong. The hadith is sound, but it is Ibn Majah's.
This is not a technicality. A man who passes on a wrong attribution from a pulpit or on WhatsApp has invented nothing himself — he was told it wrongly. So the reference is written here beside the sentence itself, not in a footnote further down.
And the hadith that is in Sahih al-Bukhari is heavier still.
